confirm email field

  • llorbanllorban May 2007
I was wondering if there's a way to create a field that checks the content of another field - such as with email address verification. This would be useful to ensure the user enters the correct email address, student number etc...

    Thanks
  • Hey Llorban,

We've heard that request a couple of times, but it's not in Wufoo right now. I'm not sure if we want to add something like that, but we'll definitely discuss the possibility.
  • I have to say that would be a great addition to the form. So many other sites are using that feature to help in verifying spam posters. I would use that option!! Please concider our "2 cents" :)
  • Make that 3 people who would love to see this feature. BTW I noticed I was asked to verify my email address when signing up for the forums. : )

The Forum is powered by PunBB and is probably not a Wufoo product, am I right?
  • Yes, the forum is not powered by Wufoo.

I tried imputting my own code into the form to allow this but all it did was take away the red boxes if required fields weren't filled in.

Did you try to paste JavaScript into the form builder under field instructions or some other input area? If so, the JavaScript should be getting stripped, and there are definitely some potential side effects since Wufoo heavily uses JSON, and incorrectly formatted JavaScript will break the JSON string. Perhaps adding the ability to link to an external JavaScript file may be something worth considering on our end. If you don't mind sharing, what sort of approach were you taking?

I tried putting the script right into the form fields. I also tried putting it into the source code in every possible area and got the same result every time.
  • It's likely that any code introduced to the form builder will either be stripped out or cause the builder to break. The only way to offer that type of customization would be to use the API.

Sorry for kicking this topic. But I wondered if it is possible to do this now? Or maybe some sort of work-around?
  • I'm sorry but we do not have any immediate plans to add this functionality.
  • AlessandroAlessandro August 2008
That is most unfortunate. Is it possible to make such a thing ourselves?
  • You can theoretically do anything through our API, but it would require programming on your end.
  • AlessandroAlessandro August 2008
Programming is not an issue. But would be able to check the form on submit?
  • The entire submission process is handed on your site and on your servers with the API, so you have the ability to validate the data however you want before it is submitted through the API to Wufoo.

I just want to be another user who would like an ability to verify e-mail addresses.

    My Form is: https://efcchurches.wufoo.com/forms/registration-form/

Currently I have them re-enter it, but I have already some users who type it in wrong the second time.

    Thank you!
  • Has anything changed with this?

I was thinking of being a subscriber because of the new mailchimp integration, but the no email verification field is a deal breaker for me...

    Thanks
  • Unfortunately this hasn't changed. We will give it strong consideration as it is being asked for more frequently.

I would love to see this feature!!

I would also like to see this feature, is there any progress here? I've been a committed wufoo user now for almost 2 years.

Hey Jon, it's something we've thought about adding, but it's not something we currently have on our development schedule. However, we might take a look at it again the next time we go over the available field types in Wufoo. We appreciate the feedback and for letting us know what you'd like to see in Wufoo.

This would be a great stocking stuffer for Christmas. A real shame that the Wufoo signup form offers this functionality - but the system itself does not - yet.
  • Jen+BjersJen Bjers December 2010
Hi, for the email field - we do validate that the input is an email address and will show an error if the input is not in a valid email format. An email comparison feature is definitely not a bad idea, but I'm afraid it's not in our development plans for the near future. Sorry about that.

great web app but this is a deal breaker for my company.

Please add us to the long list of people who've asked for this over the past five years.

We use the Wufoo>Mailchimp integration, and we frequently get Mailchimp error messages like this:
"Your subscribe integration has failed for form XXX.
    Error Code: 220
Error Text: 220 : "xxx@hotmail.co" has been banned

What this means is simply that the customer mistyped their email address, and so the integration with Mailchimp has failed.

It's quite clear that *any* form application for people's email addresses needs to verify the emails if it's to be robust.

The amount of time that people have already spent trying to create workarounds for the absence of this functionality is probably more than it would take you simply to build it.

    Please reconsider this urgently!
